An Artistic Collaboration Between Sue Taves and Zia Gipson
This slideshow is a sample of images from the show of 30 3D and 2D pieces in this series of work. The reception for this show is Thursday, May 10th, 2012 in Seattle, on Capitol Hill, 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Refreshments will be served, if you’re interested in attending this private reception, please contact the artists for more information.
Here’s a excerpt from the artists’ statement (you can read the whole thing and more on the website or at the reception):
Heart images resonate across centuries and cultures. For the past couple of years, Sue and Zia have collaborated in an exploration of the heart-as-metaphor. How can images of the heart depict our journey through life? Their work brilliantly captures a few of the moments along that journey.
In an age of technology, we tend to consider our brains as the seat of our self, or soul. But it’s the image of the heart that captures our imaginations, our emotions and our personal histories to a degree our brains never can.
The last step in the artists’ collaboration was to visually articulate the stories inherent in the mending of the deliberately broken hearts. The insights include: “While the mending isn’t always pretty, it’s pretty interesting.” “It’s shocking to purposefully break something beautiful.” “Healing is optional; scar tissue is not.”
